Every year the Parish Council decides how much money it needs to carry out its work and statutory obligations as well as finance any projects Cllrs have agreed to. This money comes from what is called the Parish Precept, which is part of the overall Council Tax provided by all Council Tax Payers
As with most years, Camblesforth Parish Council is looking at ways to improve the village and there have been a number of projects both actioned and in planning – as the precept is the only source of income the Parish Council receives, it is the only way Cllrs can finance everything. Cllrs ALWAYS consider the impact of an increase of the precept has on households in the village, many of who are struggling with the cost of living. Cllrs hope that residents appreciate what the Parish Council is trying to achieve in its project work throughout the year
Projects and the Precept have been discussed by Cllrs at meetings since September 2024 and at an extra ordinary meeting in December, a whole meeting was devoted the matter. At the meeting Cllrs noted the considerable demands facing the Parish Council, not least approximately £6000 to improve street lighting in the village
In summary the Parish Council had decided to increase the precept amount by £600 for the financial year of 2025-26. This means that the charge for a Band D Household will increase from £46.30 to £56.60, which is an increase of £10.30. Below is the NYCC ‘Precept Calculator which details this. Cllrs hope that residents will accept this increase to pay for continued and new enhancements to the village
Residents can see the summary of decisions made in the December.24 and January.25 minutes of the Parish Council and found on this website, and Cllrs continue to welcome and encourage residents to attend the monthly Parish Council meetings to see how these decisions are reached.
